FAQ's

Freight forwarders handle the transport of goods from Point A to Point B. Freight forwarders traditionally act as the agent of a shipper or importer/exporter to move cargo, and will advise cargo owners on issues such as:
• the costs of shipping like freight rates, port charges and insurance costs;
• the required documentation needed for a particular shipment;
• the different methods of shipping goods internationally (such as transhipment, coastal shipping and cross trade shipping);
• keeping cargo safe from external threats (including from biological hazards such as the infamous khapra beetle or the brown marmorated stink bug);
• the rules around importing particular types of goods (whether food, prohibited goods or COVID-19 safety equipment); and
• understanding how the Incoterms affect international transactions.

There is no standard “hire” fee for a freight forwarder. Instead, you will be charged for a range of services such as customs clearance, export handling and documentation processing fees required to manage your cargo.

As Independent freight forwarders, we are not tied to only one service option. We can tap into our diverse pool of experienced and tested agents worldwide to source the best shipping options available. This means you can get the best deal possible, instead of having to rely on only one option.

Our in house brokers are based at our Sydney depot and can offer you tailored advice on customs duty, tariffs and regulations. By recruiting and training our own in house team for customs clearance, we can ensure:
 A faster process;
 That our client’s needs are fully understood; and
 The best tariffs are applied to import cargo.
We also offer a full consultancy service if you are concerned with your historical clearances or think you would be applicable for a duty refund.

When your cargo is ready for export simply give us a call and we will ask you to complete a shipper’s letter of instruction. As soon as we have all your shipping details populated we will collect your cargo. This may even be on the same day depending on the time that we receive your information.

Absolutely! If you have a problem or query and need support from the business owners at ICE we welcome your communication. Two of our three Directors are based in our Sydney office and are on hand should our team not be able to assist. Please direct your query to info@salamashipping.com.au and your request will be passed on.
